Do you require a document to be notarized?
A notarized document is a document that has been marked with a stamp (or “seal”), which indicates that the signature on the document is legitimate as it has been verified by a notary public. In addition to verifying your identity, a notary is supposed to look for signs of trouble: are you signing the document willingly (even if you don’t like what’s in it) or is somebody forcing you to sign? Likewise, a notary wants to make sure that you’re in a condition where you can truly understand what you’re signing.
How to Get a Notarized Document?
You simply sign it in front of notary (a person who is authorized to notarize documents).
The notary will ask for identification to verify that you really are who you say you are. You’ll need official identification with a photograph – a driver’s license, passport, or other government-issued ID.
Be sure to bring an unsigned document (don’t sign it ahead of time) and your identification.

Basic requirements for authentication or notary services
- Where an individual is required to swear an oath under the Evidence Act of Canada, the individual himself or herself must personally appear before the lawyer
- Documents must be bona fide and in original (not copy) form
- Two pieces of Identification of the individual swearing the document is required except in unusual circumstances
- Any other requirement imposed on the individual swearing the document that Open Door Law Corporation, in its sole opinion, believes necessary to provide services to the notarize the document
- Individuals are required to review and if agreeable, sign a limitation of liability
